G.O.O.D. Music's "Cruel Summer" Nude Album Cover Revealed

Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West and his G.O.O.D. Music crew's new Cruel Summer album cover has landed online and strikes a close resemblance to last year's Watch the Throne artwork.

Mr. West resorted to Twitter and unleashed the new cover art Thursday (August 2) afternoon.

G.O.O.D. Music's debut compilation album, Cruel Summer, isn't just a Kanye West  album (pretty much everyone on the G.O.O.D. Music label makes an appearance), but Yeezy's influence is all over the cover. The piece (which looks like it was crafted out of clay) evokes classical art, much like West and Jay-Z 's gold-plated, similarly word-less Watch The Throne artwork . The bigger indication that West was the brain behind this cover? The fact that the Grecian woman's breasts are prominently displayed, a recurring image in Kanye's cover art. Wonder if he got Kim Kardashian to pose? Cruel Summer's release date has been pushed back from August 7 to September 4, which technically still falls in the summer season. It's a cruel summer, indeed, that would deliver such a chilly, colorless cover art. (Idolator)

Some bloggers have pointed out G.O.O.D. Music's decision to feature a nude female sculpture and questioned what impact it could have at retail outlets.

Cruel Summer, the collaborative album from Kanye West's GOOD Music collective, has been so frequently postponed -- from Spring 2012 to August 7 to now September 4 -- that the LP should just be dubbed Cruel Indian Summer to better reflect the season it's being released in. With little more than a month before Cruel Summer's comes out and still no track list to be seen, it appeared as though the disc would once again be delayed... until just minutes ago, when West dropped by Twitter for the first time in a month to unveil the sculpturesque cover for the Getting Out Our Dreams crew's album. While the image of a nude female statue fondling herself isn't as controversial as, say, a painting of Kanye f*cking an armless angel monster, the Cruel Summer cover will still probably have a tough time getting displayed at prude Walmarts. Yeezy announced the LP's title last fall after months of speculation.

Kanye West has apparently announced the title of the much anticipated G.O.O.D. Music album: Cruel Summer. While that's all the information he revealed surrounding the compilation, but he wasn't done there. Yeezy also announced that Cruel Summer is the name of a short film he's premiering on May 23 during this year's Cannes Film Festival in France. The film has been described as "a fusion of short film and art installation" and an "immersive seven-screen experience" in an accompanying press release. And after it debuts, Cruel Summer will be open for public viewing on May 24 and 25. (Complex)

In March, contributing producer Mannie Fresh hinted at the LP's near-completion.

"The cool thing about G.O.O.D. Music is it's a bunch of great ideas," Mannie said in an interview. "I'm one of them ideas. So some songs do go through that cycle. Some songs get to me like that where they'll sayd, 'Hey, see what you can do to this song. Hey, see what you can add to this song.' So it's a good opportunity, it's a good thing. [Kanye West] is trying to find the most talented producers, the most talented artists and put them all in a room and say, 'Go for it.' It's all energy. ... In hip-hop history, when have we ever got along? It's a cool thing, we're sitting at the table, all of us get along on one accord, making good music. ... It's pretty close, it's pretty close, I would say it's pretty, pretty close to being, you know, [finished.] Like I said, the songs are phenomenal, everything. It's an album that's all over the place. It's not just one thing." (MTV)
