Social media means that celebrities have the ability to speak their minds to millions of followers. Free of censors and PR varnish, some stars have gotten into trouble for being a little too forthright, making unflattering comments about their acquaintances. Some celebrities, more than once. In what might be a first, a celebrity is being taken to court for alleged defamation on Instagram, the popular photo-sharing social media forum. The lawsuit comes from a woman named Karen Monroe who says hip-hop superstar The Game hurt her reputation. (The Hollywood Reporter)
Last month, Game went on a social media rant about Monroe's alleged on-duty misbehavior.
He reportedly went on to list his reasons for dismissing her, adding in one message, "She was BUSTED having sex with her then boyfriend and leaving a used condom & the wrapper in my daughter's room!!!" Now Monroe, who also worked for hip-hop star Nas, is taking legal action amid claims she lost work as a result of The Game's attack and received death threats and insults from his Instagram.com followers. In legal papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday (24Jul13) her lawyer states: "(The Game) stated that Plaintiff had been fired by him for lying, stealing, screaming at his children, mistreating other children, doing very inappropriate and unbecoming things of a babysitter... "To ensure that Plaintiff was appropriately identified as the target of Defendants defamatory rant, Defendant identified Plaintiff by her name, attached a picture of her on his Instagram account with the caption 'Beware if this person is watching your children, she is a very dangerous baby sitter', and listed Plaintiff's Twitter and Instagram accounts." Follow Game's mid-June comments, the nanny hinted at possibly taking legal action against him.
Over the weekend The-Game, aka Jayceon Taylor unleashed a tirade of histrionics toward his former nanny Karen Monroe - she's since sought legal representation from Manu J. Elloie. who says he's already reached out to The Game and his legal representation to resolve their issues. Speaking exclusively with BOSSIP.com Elloie said, "We have not heard back yet from Mr. Taylor's legal representation, but we have reached out about rectifying the situation. We've already sent letters out and are sitill in the process of sending letters to have the damaging comments removed from various websites. We're trying to stop the bleeding so to speak." While Ms. Monroe has yet to file a slander/defamation civil suit against Taylor, Elloie says she has not ruled out that option. "These are serious allegations that have been put forth,"Elloie told BOSSIP. "At this time we're not making a statement. We're we're reaching out to get this matter resolved as quickly as possible so both parties can move forward." (Bossip)
In May, rap mogul Diddy's ex-girlfriend made headlines after being slapped with lawsuits from ex-nannies.
Nanny #2 Amanda Jansen has filed a lawsuit in L.A. County Superior Court, claiming Kim Porter hired her in 2011 to care for Diddy's children ... but her job quickly turned into that of a full-service round-the-clock housekeeper. In addition to caring for the kids, Jansen claims she worked well over 100 hours a week doing all sorts of chores -- without ever being given a proper break. Jansen -- who claims she was hired as live-in help -- also claims she was never given a room with a working lock ... had no furniture other than a bed and a computer desk ... and was forced to live out of a suitcase.
