West Coast rap group N.W.A. and music icon LL Cool J have reportedly been nominated for consideration into the 2014 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
According to reports, the two rap entities amongst other notable musicians will face-off in hopes of making history.
This year hip-hop acts N.W.A. and LL Cool J have been included among the 16 nominees. Other rock bands included are Nirvana, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Deep Purple, Peter Gabriel, Link Wray, and the Zombies. N.W.A. was nominated last year, but failed to make it on board. Let's hope the Compton legends will get the accolades they deserve this year. The 29th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held in April 2014 in New York. The ceremony will be broadcast on HBO. (Miss Info TV)
A couple years ago, music icon Rakim reacted to receiving a nod for the Hall of Fame.
"I was speechless. You can almost say, "Yeah, I made it," getting nominated to that right there. It's a big accolade. If I get in, it'll definitely put the icing on the cake. To be noticed on that plateau, for me, is enough. It definitely lets you know that you're noticed, appreciated, and somewhat made it in music. But I've got other things to prove. I don't know why, but now it's like [I'm] proving you can be over 40, still be relevant, still be nice on the mic, and you can still be a beast. All of these things. It don't stop with me. I guess with the titles that I've been handed through the years, it inspires me to keep that up. If not, push it further." (Complex)
A few years ago, Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons vouched his support for the rap mogul.
"Nothing makes me happier than seeing the greatest of all time, LL Cool J, getting nominated to become a member of the Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame. I remember when Todd was just a young, runaway kid who kept sending his demo tape to Rick Rubin's dorm room. When we first listened to his tape, we knew we had to make Todd part of the Def Jam family. Over the years, Todd made hit after hit, and maybe only to Jay-Z, he has the most hits in hip-hop history...at least in my book. But more importantly than being a hit maker, Todd has always said yes when asked to give back to his community. I have asked him to do many, many things and he has NEVER said no. He is a true friend and someone who truly deserves to [be] immortalized in the Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame. (Global Grind)
After LL lost out on an induction in 2009, Slaughterhouse's Joell Ortiz was vocal on his issueswith the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame panel.
"how they not let LL cool J in the rock n roll hall of fame yet?," he asked Wednesday (December 16) night. "LL cool J is one of the first rappers that ever reached out to give me encouragement early on. He didnt even know me just a good dude. @menima27 not many at all. Alot of arrogant a**holes in this biz. I got stories yall." (Joell Ortiz's Twitter)
